Long Range Hunter Course
Master Long Range Shooting in real-world conditions.
Join us for the Rifle Guru Long Range Shooting School at our private training facility, located just north of Boise in a stunning mountain setting. Designed for hunters and precision shooters alike, this course blends expert instruction, cutting-edge equipment, and some of the most scenic and challenging ranges in the Northwest.
Day One lays the foundation for true precision marksmanship. Students receive expert instruction in rifle and equipment selection, ballistics, and core shooting techniques while working with premium rifle systems. You’ll develop mastery in shooter/spotter communication, trajectory validation, and engaging targets well beyond 1,000 yards. The course covers internal and external ballistics, bore maintenance, and ethical hunting principles—building the confidence required for consistent, first-round hits.
Day Two advances your skills with in-depth ballistics and wind compensation for complex, real-world conditions. You’ll learn to read wind and environmental indicators while accounting for variables such as air density, spin drift, and the Coriolis effect. Field positions and advanced support systems are emphasized, allowing you to extend effective range using ultra-premium rifles and precision rangefinding technology. The result is confident, ethical shot execution under pressure—when it matters most.

Wes Oman –
I recently attended Rifle Guru’s long range shooting school and enjoyed an amazing shooting experience.
The instruction and training I received was well delivered and very easy to implement. Having the opportunity to receive feedback from my spotting partner and instructor resulted in immediate shot placement improvement.
The suppressed Allterra Arms school rifle was a tack driver and a pleasure to shoot. 1000-yard hits became routine on the first day.
I finished out the course by joining the 1-mile club using the Rifle Guru built 7 PRC with a first shot hit. What a thrill!
The range was absolutely incredible, the variety of targets afforded opportunity to explore a multitude of shooting positions and environmental conditions.
I left the class very pleased with the skills I gained and honed.
I have a much better understanding of my equipment and the tolls necessary to consistently and effectively place shots at 1000+ yards.
Rifle Guru provided a world class experience.
I could not be more pleased with my experience and highly recommend this long range shooting experience to everyone!
Thanks Jeff and the guys, I’m looking forward to attending another class.

Wes, thank you for your review. We truly appreciated how engaged and interactive you were during classroom instruction. Your thoughtful questions likely reflected what others were thinking and allowed us to dive deeper into key topics. We’re glad you were part of the class and hope to see you back on the range.

I traveled from Hawaii to attend the Rifle Guru’s long range shooting course, which is straight up awesome. After purchasing a Gunwerks rifle from them I spent a lot of time in the field trying to learn shooting at distance on my own. Admittedly, my first round hit probability was somewhere around 50% with targets between 400-600 yards, and less out to 1000 yards. During the course, I learned various techniques for “correct form” and methods to employ for what I would consider a solid base for precision rifle operation/use. I was fortunate to shoot mostly under the helpful and wise instruction of Wyatt Smith instructor and had an awesome time getting to practice what we learned. Jeff and Wyatt corrected and explained all the faulty data inputs I had been using in my ballistic calculator and showed us how to utilize other various tools available to us. We were introduced to the art of wind reading via mirage and terrain. By the time we began to engage targets beyond the 400-yard mark, I was successful in most of my first-round hits! And by the end of day 2, I was comfortable and successful in engaging animal targets to 1000 yards. Targets between 1,000-1,500 were more challenging due to the changing wind conditions, but that made it fun to me. I would highly recommend this class to anyone interested in improving their rifle shooting abilities. There was absolutely no stress as far as feeling like I was too far behind during the class. The instructors made me feel comfortable like I was hanging out with old friends. I can attest that both my precision and accuracy have greatly improved upon and I look forward to taking a follow-up course in the future. Mahalo for the fun time!

Tyson, thank you for your review and continued support. We’re glad to hear you enjoyed the instruction from Wyatt. Our instructors each bring a unique perspective and depth of experience to the shooting school, and we’re proud of the value they provide. We would definitely love to have you back for the Alumni Course.

WHAT A FUN 2 DAYS! Jeff, Wyatt and Drew really shooting at a mile is and how to train it! They provide an incredible experience with class room time and more range time at several stations, high and low. It is amazing how they teach you to read wind/mirage over the landscape and distance. We shot at life-sized Wolves, Elk, Deer, Bear, Antelope and more. You finish the course with the 1-mile challenge, you earn one of the esteemed prized awards that will be the reason for all your buddies at the cigar lounge to buy you a drink….lol. The animal targets are colored naturally and blend into the terrain and makes it feel like you’re really hunting. The vitals swing when you hit them and let you know instantly your shot was good. The food and drinks were awesome and Jessica (our host) is a great cook! I can’t say enough how great the instructors are with their combined knowledge and experience. I really enjoyed the shooting school! Thank you, Ted.
Jeff Ostrom –

Tom –
Jeff and Wyatt are top notch instructors. It is incredibly well organized and very educational. Jeff and his crew run a tight ship and keep everyone on track. You gradually progress through lectures and small caliber training to the large caliber, long range shots on a well-designed shooting range. Over the course of two days, you see the skills and comfort of each shooter rapidly increase. It is a clear that the instructors love seeing their students improve and they take great pride in building the skills and confidence of each shooter. On top of all that breakfast and lunch provided by Jessica who catered and delivered amazing meals our to the field.
I really cannot say enough good things about Jeff and his crew. If you have any questions about rifles, shooting, hunting or gear, Jeff is your guy!
Jeff Ostrom –
Tom, thank you for your review. We were thrilled to receive the photo of the elk you harvested at just over 700 yards in your home state of Washington—an impressive accomplishment. Congratulations on your success, and we look forward to seeing you again in the future.

Jeff is a subject matter expert in his field. He delivers outstanding long range shooting instruction. His instructions have prepared me for my upcoming hunt to Tajikistan for Marco Polo sheep and Pamir Ibex where the shots are longer than average in extreme conditions. He has given me the confidence to make first round hits! The shooting range is well laid out with high quality animal targets!
Jeff Ostrom –
Mark, thank you for your review. Best of luck on your upcoming hunt—we look forward to hearing about your success.

Jeff puts on a wonderful long range shooting course with the help of Wyatt and Drew. I am a fairly new shooter and this class taught the basics for me, but also helped those whom have been shooting progress. You get instant feedback during shooting segments from one of the instructors, classroom segments are thought out and applicable. The team has access to and has used many different types of scopes, rifles, range finders, ammo and etc. They are knowledgeable, patient, and truly take the time each student needs. Everything is provided for the class, all you have to do is show up. Not to mention some great snacks, fantastic meals, and we all shared a ton of laughs.

Hit a mile target on my 3rd attempt at the end of the 2nd day. Pretty incredible what he was able to teach me considering I had basically no experience shooting long range before. The class was also very professional. Not just shooting high end rifles but think big screen TVs and Starlink internet, and beautiful Idaho rolling hills to mimic real scenarios. Really great private range, great lunch (which I wasn’t expecting), and great instructors.
